Biblical Authority
/Essential Christianity begins with the belief in the authority of the Word of God, the Bible. The Scriptures provide us with the necessary foundation and structure for Christian belief and practice. God has spoken to us through the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, as He inspired human authors to communicate His intended revelation. And so the Bible, rather than human reason, tradition, or opinion, is the Christian’s final authority. It forms the basis and develops the Christian worldview. By the Bible’s own testimony, it is the source of sound doctrine. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us what is right. As a result, believers can become complete and equipped to do what is right.
